Peep Show

This morning we wake up and celebrate Peeps. Sugar coated marshmallow birds with availability in several unnatural colors carrying no nutritional value deserve a celebration. But it isn't really about Peeps is it? What is Easter?

Oh yeah, that guy.

Spring Clearance

Yes. This will be a shameless nod to the fiery wit of BSNYC, but I just couldn't help myself in this case. Madison's craigslist sellers are free to post whatever crap they want without worry of suffering Bikesnob's wrath, and I'm not so sure that's a good thing. Like the sucker I am, I couldn't stop myself from clicking. "$25 for a Power Climber? oooh what are those?"This seller must know that sex sells, but he can't find any so why not use the next best thing. Trash! I dig how the Power Climber leans seductively against the tire pile, as if to say: "I suck hard, I'm lonely, and I'm bouncy. 25 bucks!" If this guy could have waited another ten minutes for the dog to come along and lift a leg to piss on the drive train, he would have had a bidding war on his hands. He must have sold the small block that was sitting in his front yard, so no longer needs the bike and the 3 tires to keep the tarp over it from blowing away.

I couldn't resist.

Custom Steel and Guinness? Brilliant!

I'm not building Sheri's bike here, I'm providing technical support.
Clean, but with cable stops for those moments of weakness.
Fin.

Spring Classics

This looks to be a good time. I think I'm going to ride whatever bike looks to be the most fun that day. No kickstands. Bring your bags of blood. I had the honor of going back and forth with Kittens and some of these other vikings all last year in mtb and cross races, so kicking back in a Madison park after 62 miles of carnage with cold suds on hand,... sounds like a mighty fine spot.

Will it Work?

So will today's speech from Obama put the brakes on the racially charged atmosphere that threatens to drive the Democratic party over a cliff?

As a supporter looking out, it would seem to me that this kind of talk is only diverting attention from where Obama's opposition should really be digging; which is into the Rezko matter. Voters that are already inclined to support Obama don't care what his preacher said a couple of years ago. Playing the Wright clips over and over again only served to get the forces that already hate Obama all stirred up and foaming at the mouth. From the eyes of a supporter, the Rezko matter stings and has us looking at each other with shrugs of doubt. The truth is, even if Obama's dealings with Rezko were 10 times worse than his critics say they are; he would still be a better candidate than Hillary or McCain.

The man is a politician, so of course he is flawed. The question to me is who gets the most people involved in the political process, and is less flawed than the rest of the field? The answer is Obama. Does this make me a cynic, a realist, or a "follower"?

66 Miles of Hills

600 To Go.

What on earth is Sheri doing in this photo?
Her new Waltworks frame is in the house. I made her build most of it. Pics when it is finished since we are still waiting for a freakish long spindle length BB. I dare say this will be one of the coolest bikes in WORS. It's pretty sexy. The bike is also nice.

Madison-Blue Mound-Madison

I took the day off aiming to head out and ride some hills for a while today. I tried Map My Ride to find a good route that included Blue Mound Park, View, and Ryan road. I found a good loop and headed out with plenty of food, legs, and with a little cheat sheet taped to the top tube. The longish climbs near the park are a bit sandy but they are clear for the most part and ready to ride. Ryan road is so sandy that it took over 5 minutes to descend while keeping it under 30.

Turns out my cute little cheat sheet was missing a vital turn. In order to pick up Hwy P out of Cross Plains from KP, you have to take a right and head through town to get to P. I kept following the KP signs out of Cross Plains all the way to 19. Whoops. It turns out that chunk of road, KP between Cross Plains and 19, is really cool and I will be seeing it again. I will be getting very familiar with this area in the next few years. But today I was lost and frustrated. 55 miles in, lost, 20 or so miles to go, 45 minutes to get there. I stepped into a manufactured home/tavern on 19 to use the phone. I have never felt more unwelcome. When I asked the guy if I could use his phone, he stared at me and didn't answer for like 15 seconds. He was wondering if he was going to catch some bizarre gay space monkey aids case from letting me use his phone. We are going to have to put together a 20 strong group ride that stops at this place for beers. When we get there we will hassle him to put the TDF on all the TVs. Anyway, I made a $40 mistake today after having to call a cab in order to pick up Rowan on time. Noob.

Cross-eyed

There is something wrong with me. It's March 11th and I can think of nothing but Cyclocross. I aim to take Cross' quite a bit more seriously this year while keeping WORS races more fun and less freaking out. Yes, I am told that I tweak for the entire weekend when it is time to race. I didn't know that. I'm sure it's because it was my noob year and this year will I will be more relaxed.

So...... Has WCA posted a schedule yet? How about now?
